The fifth Magnetic North Conference will be a one and a half day, in-person conference, on December 4-5, 2025, in Sudbury, Ontario. There will also be a pre-conference reception on the evening of Wednesday, December 3rd.
The purpose of the Magnetic North initiative is to encourage community coordination in pan-northern population growth and welcoming community strategy, including attraction, retention, and reconciliation.
Registration is open until 17 November 2025 and Sponsorship Opportunities are available until 31 October 2025.
Rural and Northern Immigration in Northern Ontario
In the past three months, NPI President and CEO Charles Cirtwill has given several talks to groups across the North about immigration, presenting one clear argument: reduce national levels and increase rural and northern levels through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program.
NPI recently relaunched our Infrastructure and Boundary maps on our website.
These free to access maps display geographical boundaries and infrastructure in Northern Ontario including, but not limited to, Provincial and Federal electoral districts, local service boards, and newcomer services.
Darion, a recent Lakehead University graduate will be focusing on transportation and exploring sustainable, efficient alternatives to Winter Roads.
Mithara joined NPI in June after studying abroad with a background in economics, law, and economic development. She will be conducting a case study for a new regional hospital in Kenora.
Paula joins NPI as the Institute's first Vice-President. After six years with Impact ON she brings to the immigration file several years of experience working across Northern Ontario.
With a background in marketing and communications, Deven brings creativity, organization, and a collaborative spirit to his role as Marketing and Event Coordinator.
Two new Directors join the Institute's Board of Directors
Last month NPI had the pleasure of welcoming Derek Parks and Kaylie Dudgeon to the Institute's Board of Directors.
NPI would also like to acknowledge that Dr. Heather Hall has been appointed to Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors.
New Director - Kaylie Dudgeon is a bilingual communications professional with expertise in media, relations, community engagement and strategic messaging. Kaylie is also a successful graduate of NPI's Experience North Summer Internship program.
New Director - Derek Parks is the president of Parks Environmental Inc. and specializes in environmental assessments. Active locally, regionally, and provincially, he has served on several committees and is currently the Chair of the Committee on the Status of Species at Risk in Ontario (COSSARO).
New Board Vice-Chair - Over the last decade, Dr. Heather Hall has held various volunteer positions within the Institute, including member and Chair of the Research Advisory Board, Director, and now Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors.
